Failed To Deploy Task - Backup runs interactively, but will not schedule.

Thread needs solution

I just had this happen on two separate Windows 10 x64 machines, so wanted to share what I ended up doing.

On both machines, I was performing a new install of True Image 2015 build 6613, without any current version of Acronis or True Image currently installed. Installation and activation all complete successfully, and creating my first backup settings all seems to go as expected until I'm trying to save and run the backup task for the first time.

I'm doing a Files & Folders backup, Incremental scheme, create only Incremental after initial Full backup, set for Daily execution at 1:00am. But when I try to save this backup task, Acronis reports "Failed to Deploy Task" with events 0x00640160+0x0090000B+0x00900007.

Nothing in the Knowledgebase currently matches those codes (https://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/bookmark/0x00640160_0x0090000B_0x00900…), although there were generic "Failed To Deploy Task" articles that talked about making sure anti-virus isn't holding the .TIS file open or similar.

If I simply "Ignore" this error I am able to "run backup now" successfully. But if I edit the settings of that backup task, it shows as "not scheduled". Rebooting the Windows machine and trying to edit the settings to schedule the task again results in the same "Failed To Deploy Task" error. Re-running the Acronis True Image 2015 build 6613 installation set and performing a "Repair" operation still resulted in the same "Failed To Deploy Task" error when trying to edit & re-schedule the task.

What I knew was the same about these two machines (besides Windows 10 x64) was that one had an Acronis Backup 11.5 for PC trial installed, and the other had a licensed Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for PC installed. Both products had been uninstalled, and the Windows machines rebooted, before attempting to install Acronis True Image 2015 build 6613.

Searching the file system and registry identified there were a few things from the Acronis Backup 11.5 for PC that were still present, so what I ended up doing was:

1. Uninstall Acronis True Image 2015 build 6613.
2. Delete the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis".
3. Delete the folder "C:\ProgramData\Acronis".
4. Delete the folder "C:\Users\AlAdams\AppData\Roaming\Acronis".
5. In "Computer Management", verified under "Users & Groups" that the Acronis service user account no longer existed. It had already been removed by uninstall on both of the machines.
6. In the "System" control panel applet, in the "Advanced system settings" tab, in the "Settings..." button for "User Profiles", I removed the Acronis account's old user profile. Note because the Acronis service user account itself had already been removed, the "User Profiles" dialog shows this as a profile directory for "unknown user".
7. In RegEDIT, deleted [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Acronis].
8. In RegEDIT, deleted [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis].
9. In RegEDIT, deleted [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis].
10. Reboot the Windows machine.
11. Now install Acronis True Image 2015 build 6613 again.

After performing these steps on each machine, now the Acronis True Image 2015 build 6613 installation will successfully schedule the backup.

So I wanted to pass this information along, since it appears there may be some additional appropriate clean-up that needs to happen in the Acronis Backup 11.5 uninstall, and/or needs to be defended against in the Acronis True Image 2015 installer.
