Failed to exclusively access a backup file during consolidation. Make sure the file is not opened in another application

Thread needs solution

I have tried to use the Acronis True Image 2015. It is backing up to a WD External Hard Disk Drive. On completion is comes up with the following error message: "Failed to exclusively access a backup file during consolidation. Make sure the file is not opened in another application"

Operating Windows 7 Enterprise
64bit
AVG Anti Virus

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

David,

Are you able to test making a backup to an internal drive, just to see if you get the same message?

If you enable email notification, you should get the file that True Image thinks is open.

Do you have Outlook open on your PC and if so is it attached to Exchange?

Do you have any database or SQL running on your machine?

Hey Colin,

Sorry for the delay in responding. The current set up is I have two external hard drives. One at the office and one at home. The backing up to the one at the office works fine. Just for some reason the one at home does not like it. I am wondering if overlapping the running antivirus scan at the same time might be the problem. While I have asked the antivirus programme to exclude the external drive, it might be clashing with the Acronis Software.

I'll do some more checking and see what might be going on with some of those possible conflicts you suggested.

Thanks Colin.

David

Are you sharing the task between the two drives.

No. I have separate tasks for each drive and scheduled for different times and days. So when at the office it goes to the drive in the office as scheduled. It works fine. Then at home it is scheduled accordingly but it is not backing up properly.

Just installed WD MyCloud single drive 4 TB NAS drive.

My Acronis 2016 installed in September 2015 appeared to back up Ok previously to a Seagate storage drive just occasionally connected via USB. With trying to save either "entire PC" or just a few folders it appears to work but seems not to be able to finalise as it gives the message @Failed to exclusively access a back up file during consolidation.

As suggested I have checked that no other files or programmes are open.

Help please.

Graham,

From what you've written I assume that you have both TI 2016 and WD MyCloud installed. I'm wondering if there is some sort of conflict between the two.  Although Acronis make the engine for WD MyCloud, it is possible WD have customised it or are not using the most up to date version.
