Failed to open data stream

Thread needs solution

When i want to make a (new) backup it fails somewhere half way or at the start with the message: Failed to open data stream, when i click retry i then get the message: file not found... The files are there and accessible but still it wont work. I have this problem on multiple computers (windows 7 and 8.1) one of those is a clean install.

This problem started right after the latest update. I tested it with both windows 7 and 8.1, i created a backup and everything was fine, then updated and immediately after it failed.

I mostly have this problem when i'm writing to a network location (i'm using FTP), but i also have it randomly when writing to a local disk. i added a system reports file just in case. I hope someone can help me fix this.

I'm getting the same error, but at the completion of the backup. Upon further inspection, the backup is running multiple times and had filled my target drive. Something in backup scheduling of this new release is broken. My 5am backup has run 6 times today!

cheers,

There are 4 KB articles that discuss the "failed to open datastream" error, both relate to the consolidation of backup tasks. Two of these are for previous versions. I am including links to these articles, not sure if they will help or not.

I dont think its the case... i can make a new backup and still have the problem... the only way to get it to work is to save the backup locally... then everything works - single backup or incremental...

What ive done in download the older version of acronis 2015 and used that one and unchacked the look for new updates thingy... for as long as it works, im not updating any time soon...

Thanks. I'd already run into those but they either didn't apply or work. I could remove the "script" from the list, no amount of prodding would allow me to "Add existing backup". The screen blinked and and nothing happened when I selected the backup to "add".

Note my original comment: the backup is running multiple times, and filling up the target. The error condition doesn't happen until it has filled the target disc, so, why is the backup running every 20 mins or so? Sync is not on...

I have the same problem, was a solution ever found? I must say I am becoming very frustrated with Acronis True Image and it's shortcomings.

Well now im using Acronis true image 2016 and have no problems so far... but for one computer the other 5 are all working good.

The one computer that isnt working, worked for like a week or so and suddenly couldnt fiend version 14? and after that moment... everything i tryed didnt work anymore... if i tryed using SMB (network share) or use FTP... it always fails... it doesnt metter if i make a new backup or not... nothing works... but the stupid thing is, its just this one computer and all others save to the same location and have no problems... im thinking of reinstalling that pc (havent got to it though) and hopefully fix it that way... i have no idea what it could be... im guessing something in network settings or something... the program is telling me "cant open data stream" but actually in the e-mails it sends it tells me:

12. The following backups are made: [path and name of the backup]
13. Faild to open datastream try and remove the backup and add it again...
14. Faild to open datastream try and remove the backup and add it again...
15. Cant access the file or folder
16. Cant access the file or folder
17. The process cant access the file because its in use by another program/process
18. Operation had completed with errors.

Even though this is 2016 version (latest update) i had the same lines from 2013 and 1015... i would recommand turning e-mail notifications on, thy give a lot more information and also step by step information!
