Failed to read data from the disk.

Thread needs solution

I am using True Image Home 11.0 (Build 8,101) on Windows XP SP2.

I have been running a nightly differential backup task onto a 500 Gb external hard drive, followed by a verification task, for about a month now. Three nights ago, and for each night since, the backup task runs OK but verification task returns the error:

E00070003: Failed to read data from the disk.
A possible reason might be bad sectors on the disk.

I ran a full CHKDSK on the external drive (which takes awhile on a 500 Gb drive!) yesterday, but CHKDSK reported no problems and made no fixes.

Acronis reported the same error with verification again last night.

Suggestions?

I would recommend you to copy the backup archive to internal hard drive and verify it from there. If the issue is not reproduced then try to change connection to your external hard drive. If the issue still persists update SnapAPI drivers using the following KB article

Here's another data point. I executed both the differential backup and the verification manually rather than as a scheduled task and both executed without errors.
