Failed to read data from the disk error...

Thread needs solution

Hello Forum,

I have Acronis True Image Home 2010 build 7046 and Acronis Disk Director Suit v11 build 11.0.216 both installed under Vista service pack 2. Basically, the lastest versions of the software in question. After installing a new 2TB WD hard disk drive which was formatted with latest version of the Disk Director Suit software, I find myself unable to make an image with the True Image software without making errors.

When I run the True Image program, an error dialog box appears with the following message... "Failed to read data from the disk. Failed to read from the sector xxxxxxxxxxxx of the hard disk '3'. Failed to read the snapshot manager drive. (0x1000D7). The request could not be preformed because of an I/O device error (0xFFF0)", with Retry, Ignore, Ignore All and Cancel, key button(s) left to press.

Now, If I press "Ignore All" button, the True Image program does create an Image. I just do not know how reliable this image is now?

So firstly, I would like to know how to avoid this error dialog box from appearing when running the True Image program. Secondly, if there is no workaround, is the Image created trustworthy? And lastly, is this issue due to using a new 2TB sized hard drive that the software developers have not yet addressed adequately in their programming?

Thanks for any assistance,

Karen.

Can't answer the error question, but the way to tell if the backup is anygood is to do a Validation from within ATI.

For futrther assurance, you can then boot up form the bootcd, and go through the steps for restore up to but not including the final proceed. IF both of those things work, yo can be 99% certain yo can do a resotre with the prgrogram using that backup file.

IF you want 100% certainty, do an actual restore, but yo need a spare drive to do that.

Hello Scott,

Thanks for the reply. Subsequent to my initial post now True Image does not even generate an Image file. Just hangs there. We removed the 2TB harddrive and now the True Image software works. This just demonstates clearly that the latest version of True Image can not understand the newer sized hard drives. Thanks your input though...

If you make and send an info file to TEch they will try to use that info to incorporate the necessary drivers in ATI, at least in upcoming versions. Also, they might make a new iso for you to use to burn anew bootcd that will work with your hardware. They might even already have one that will work.
