Failed to read sector X of hard disk 4 - How to know which disk is 4

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Whenever I start ATI 2009 I'm getting several messages that relate to failure to read sectors of hard disk 4. What I'm wanting to know is how to know which disk is hard disk 4. From within Acronis the disks are identified as C, D, G, H and I and not by number. Disks G, H and I are external USB HDD's. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I would simply remove one drive at a time, reboot, and try it again. You will soon find the drive causing the report.

In my experience with TI 10 and 2009, at one time one of my external drives caused this type of error. Some time later it seemed to heal itself, never had that error again.

Hello Monty Robison and Fungus,

Monty, I may recommend you to check all of your disks for the errors:

  • Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
  • Enter the command: "chkdsk DISK: /r"

where DISK is the partition letter you need to check, for example, to check D drive you need to type in: chkdsk D: /r

Please note, that checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.

If the issue still persists after checking the drives, please gather Acronis Report and attach it to your reply. Download Acronis Report utility available at this link ,run it and  create a report.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.
