Failed Scheduler Error

Thread needs solution

I upgraded from ATI Home 10.0 to Home 2010 a few days back, and have confirmed it can do a full system backup to an external HD, and recover to a second external HD.

On viewing the logs today, I noticed a failed attempt to perform a scheduled task last night, with the following details:

"Created: December 6, 2009 4:00:01 AM Details: Scheduler failed to run task with GUID 'AA9B08FD-E007-4B77-B85C-5A85781491FF' because of error 3 (The system cannot find the path specified). More information can be found at: http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/

Event code: 0x00090003"

The thing is, I have scheduled no tasks with 2010, and that event code link found no info.

I did however, install the trial version of 2010 before deciding to purchase it, and did schedule backups with that version. I subsequently uninstalled the trial version via Add/Remove, prior to purchasing, but suspect some remnants from it may account for this error.

Any advice?

Search for your Acronis scripts folder and if you have no tasks scheduled, you can delete any *.tis files inside the folder.

Despite deleting all *.tis files found, I am still getting failed scheduled tasks logged:
http://naut.homestead.com/files/ati.jpg

I scheduled these tasks with the trial version of 2010 only, not with my current purchased version. I have no scheduled tasks enabled and it is irritating to see all these warning and alerts in my log files.

What do I do to delete these obsolete scheduled tasks?

I understand I get 30 days paid support with purchase of 2010. Where do I go to access this?

Check to see if you have any Windows Scheduled task.

Grover:

I have no Windows tasks scheduled.

It is clear to me that the trial version of 2010 is attempting to execute backups, and resulting in these failures. This despite the fact I uninstalled the trial version, prior to purchasing and installing 2010.

I ask again: How do I access the 30 day paid support to resolve this?

You can visit the Acrons support page and fill out a support request; or you can send them a private message pointing to this thread and include your serial number and purchase date.

Are you running the most current build of TrueImage which is 6053 for me.

Hello Gaslad and GroverH,

Let me assist you to resolve this scheduling issue.

According to the description you provided and the part of the log I found that there's some script file from task running on your system. Thus, we should just completely stop all tasks using special utility + delete script file and recreate tasks from scratch.

Please do the following:

Download either the EXE file or ZIP archive;

Run schedmgr.exe.

In the opened prompt please issue the following:

get list

It will display list of scheduled tasks.

Then issue the following to delete all scheduled tasks:

task zap

It will stop all tasks running on your PC. After that, pleas open C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImage\Scripts folder and delete its contents (there should be task script files with the names like 7F43D031-3D5E-426E-8958-36C75BF2E31A.tib.tis or similar).
Path for Vista and Windows 7 is: C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts

Then please recreate a tasks from scratch in our program, it should help.

Actually, this message means that the product is unable to access some directory (it might be the destination folder, for example); so if you're still facing the same error, could you please change the task destination to some internal drive and let me know the results?

Also, please clarify how exactly do you specify your task (source, destination, task options etc).

I'd like to make sure all your queries regarding Acronis products are resolved.

Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Alexander:

Thank you for those instructions. I have made some progress.

- I was able to download and run schedmgr.exe and run the "get list" and "task zap" as instructed. I was also able to delete all the *.tis script files from the folder you indicated.

- I was able to do a full manual backup of my local internal C drive to my local C drive today. (Making a full system backup, even to an external USB drive was never my problem).

- My source drive was always my internal  C drive ("Disk 1") with all partitions checked.
- My destination drive was previously always my external USB drive (Disk 6").
- My task options were always a) Priority: high, b) Backup method: Full (if the first backup) otherwise Incremental, c) Compression level: Normal, d) HDD writing speed: Maximum, e) Archive validation: checked. f) the other options, I left set to default values.

Since doing all this after December 17, I have had no failed scheduled task notifications. I trust you realize it was these errors about tasks that were never scheduled in my purchased version that were my concern. These tasks were scheduled in my previous trial version only, but were still attempting to execute, despite my uninstalling that version, prior to installing the paid version

Since the tasks scheduled in my trial version were only to do an incremental backup every 2nd day, I've really only missed one of these erroneous task errors (due on December 19) but at least it is promising. If I see any more, I'll let you know.

My suspicion is that my uninstall of the trial version (which worked like a charm) left stray registry entries to account for all this. If you have any registry editing you think might be helpful, I'm comfortable with that. It's too early for me to be convinced my problems are over, but I'm hopeful.

Win7 Professional in place upgrade from Vista Business: I have tried everything! Unable to back up from the Windows GUI, I ran SnapAPI.503 and schedmgr.exe, but my backups STILL fail!! Right now I was able to backup 1% to an external 1.5TB USB2 hard drive, and the indicator light on the hard drive no longer is flashing (it is stuck ON), my source (boot) hard drive light is NOT flickering (1.5TB internal C:Drive), and the Acronis log says that it is locking partition C--this is where I usually get stuck!! Furthermore, the operation progress box states that my backup will finish in 49,710 days (e.g., 136 years). I really do not have that long to wait (LOL!). I also noticed that when this backup started it created yet another scheduling file (C2DF8AEC-DB00-4EB1-BE88-4694B81FE189.tib.tis). Is this normal? I ALWAYS do FULL backups and uncheck the box to remove the previous backup. So, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? CAN YOU HELP ME? I seem to have exhausted all of the suggestions/solutions that I have seen here online, both from users and Acronis employees, so what do I do now? I would be foolish not to have a foolproof backup/restore routine, for I used Acronis 10 without fail for years with my Vista OS, but upgrading to Win7 Pro and Acronis Home 2010 may have been a mistake...or was it?! I need answers/solutions ASAP, so with all due respect I need HELP NOW!!!...and thank you all in advance!!

Hello all,

My suspicion is that my uninstall of the trial version (which worked like a charm) left stray registry entries to account for all this. Gaslad, probably you are right. Actually, we have one good utility which cleans up all traces for Acronis True Image Home 2010. Please follow the instructions below if you want to uninstall the product:

Acronis Clean-Up Utility uses two additional components. Please makes sure that the following components are downloaded and installed in the system:

  • DevCon - command-line utility that is an alternative to the Windows Device Manager. This utility is required to remove Acronis traces from Device Manager. DevCon is included in Windows Vista by default. Read more in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 311272.

    If there is no DevCon in the system, you can download it from Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 311272, and place it in Windows\system32. Or you can just run Acronis Clean Up Utility, and it will offer to remove Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer manually using the steps described in the article Removing Acronis Backup Archive Explorer .

  • Msizap.exe - command-line utility that performs cleanup operations on the Windows Installer configuration management information. Msizap.exe is a part of Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. This utility is used to remove Acronis True Image Home 2010 configuration information from the system.

    If there is no Msizap.exe, then Acronis Clean Up Utility will offer to download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from the Microsoft website.

  1. After the required components are installed, please download Acronis Clean Up Utility, unpack and run it;
  2. Please choose to delete all Acronis products from the system;
  3. You will be asked to close Windows Explorer instances since this is necessary to remove the tishell.dll and timounter.dll Acronis files, which interact with explorer.exe;
  4. You will be also asked to reboot the system to complete the uninstallation. You can reboot the system later.

The full description is available in this article.

Richard, do not worry, I have received a message from you, I will respond to it in several minutes.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you.
