File Exclusions are ignored with disk backup
Hi.
I am sure I have done this successfully before on another machine (maybe it was still ATI 2013). I'd like to create full disk backups of drive C: on my HTPC. The disk contains a "Movies" directory, which I don't want and can't backup. It's just too big and I don't care much about loosing it. So I added the Entries:
C:\Movies\
*hiberfil.sys*
*pagefil.sys*
to the exlusion list (see screenshot htpcsettings2.png).
But there are always all files in the backup. The whole Movies directory with all files and directories in it was added (see result.png). I also tried C:\Movies\*. Even if I specify C:\*, everything is added.
I'd appreciate any hints helping me to solve this problem.
Thanks,
John.

No, the files are really in the backup. I can restore them. It's also obvious from the size of the TIB file.
And I did this before in the past. I am pretty sure that excluded files did not show up in the restore files and folders window (but that's from memory, maybe somebody else can confirm this).

John,
This problem has come up before and I do not think it was resolved. I am attaching a link here that discusses the exclude option and how to use it which it sounds like you did perform.
Did you use the Browse button to chose the C:\Movies\ folder and then clicked the Add button to add it to the exclusion list?
I have a suggestion that you might try. Your screenshot htpcsettings2.png show the folder C:\Movies\ as excluded. With this folder chosen in the Browse box make the following change: C:\Movies.
This change will eliminate the last backslash character which I believe will tell the app to exclude all content within the Movies folder. With the last backslash character included in the path you have an incomplete path string so the exclusion fails.

Thanks Enchantech.
I did set the exclude folder again, and made sure I used the browse button this time. In fact the browse button selected the directory with the trailing backslash. (C:\Movies\). But I tried with C:\Movies (without the backslash) anyway again. Unfortunately the same result. The whole drive was backed up (screens attached).
Note that hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys were backed up completely as well. I am at loss. Anymore ideas?
PS: Did you say you had a link discussing that topic?

Thanks Enchantech.
Well I just tried it on a different machine. And would you know it? There it works just as expected. Same version of ATI.
I'll do a reinstall of ATI tomorrow on the htpc. But I doubt it will help, because I just installed it a couple of days ago.

Some users have reported this problem but exactly why it happens on some installs and not others is unknown. Something you might try is drilling down to the file level to see if that helps. Exclude all *.* within the folder or exclude C:\*.mkv for example.

Status Update: I've sent Oleg the system report. Hopefully it will help.
I've done some additional tests. The file exclusion works on the same PC when I do a disk backup on the second disk (D:). Maybe it has to do with the fact that there is an additional "System Reserved" partition on the first disk (see screenshot). At least that is different from the system where it worked even with C:. Just a guess.
John.
