First Restore from USB Help

Thread needs solution

I am right now performing my first restore from an external USB drive. I am hoping someone could provide some clarification on the following question:

The Acronis Recovery Disk booted fine. Attached to the computer was an internal Sata Drive that contained a full system backup and then USB external drive that contained a more receent one. When I picked Recovery-->Recover-->My Disk I was presented a window to select the source but the window was empty other than a message "No Items to Display". I then had to "Browse" to find the two drives. I am curious as to why it did not see the drives and present them and I had to go and find them?

It is normal to have to hunt for the backup files.

The drive letter reference in the Linux software Recovery CD will differ from that in Windows so the Linux search was looking in the wrong place for your backup--hence you had to tell the program where the files were located. Note the drive letter currently associated with the selected backup. Most likely, it will be different that what you normally see inside Windows. No big deal but hence the confusion.

This drive letter confusion is the main reason all the MVP's keep reminding the users to assign meaningful names to each partition on their disks so you can identify you disks and partitions by their volume names or sizes. Never use the drive letter as a means of identification because you can make a mistake all too easily.
