First time user back up won't work

Thread needs solution

I'm a first time user of this software and i'm basically trying to clone my system drive to another drive which is connected by usb. Unfortunately this operation stalls and freezes my laptop so that i have to restart the system. Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong. Thanks

Welcome Vic,

Instead of attempting to clone, I would suggest making a full disk image of your current disk , and restoring your partitions in the order they should be on your new drive. You can also resize they new partitions if the new disk is larger than the old one.

Much of this can be performed automatically by the software, but this process also allows you to control several options during the restore process.

I'd also suggest running the check disk command chkdsk /r from a command prompt before performing the operation, and a verification on your newly created image when complete.  Although written for 2012, this is a very helpful guide - credit Grover H

In addition to Shadowsports answer I would just say that with laptops a 'reverse' clone will often give better results (which currently isn't somehting you'd really want to do). A reverse clones is where the laptop drive is removed and placed into an external caddy and the new drive is placed into the laptop and cloned from the external drive. This is fine where there is a faling drive or you are replacing a drive with a different sized one, but as a backup method it is an awful lot of work.

vic,
Your best chance of success is to boot from the user created TI bootable media Recovery CD and perform your procedures when booted from the CD.
