First Universal Restore

Thread needs solution

My mb went yesterday and the new one is due today. While I was shopping I decided to upgrade my CPU from an Intel i5 to an i7.

Both boards are socket 1150 and the same manufacturer but the new chipset will be Z97 instead of the H47.

I have done a lot of restores but never attempted a universal restore. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have successfully made the Mustang CD and FD.

Many thanks,

Nils Haugland

What OS were/are you running? If you were running Windows 7, and given that you have not changed MoBo or CPU manufacturers, there is quite a good chance that you will be able to boot off your existing boot drive without having to restore anything. My experience with trying to do this with Windows 8.1 is much less positive! If Windows does boot, you will need to load any drivers for MoBo devices that are different on the new board, but then you should be good to go. It is almost certainly worth trying this before you do a Universal Restore.

Thanks for the response.

You are right, the system booted right up and win 7 64 started updating itself. I was prepared for a long grind because it is a new MB with a different chipset. I am very happy I was wrong.
