Full backup instead of Incrimental?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

First post here so please go easy on me :)

I have noticed on two of my machines.. the scheduled incremental backup seems to forget it supposed to be doing an incremental backup and does a full backup.

I am only going on the size of the file.. but before I look into it in more detail - I wondered if anyone else seen this - or if it my error in understanding? e.g. on my wife's machine.. weekly backup sizes are:

initial - 2496MB
inc 1 - 3MB
inc 2 - 195MB
inc 3 - 8MB
inc 4 - 2477MB
inc 5 - 10MB

So as you can see .. inc 4 seems about the size of a full backup..

Any ideas?
I should of course say - all files certainly not changed.. and not aware of running any process which may have tagged them as changed (reset archive bit or anything..)
I am not even aware how acronis tracks changes? does it have an internal DB of file info? or it use times stamp.. or size/time combo or what? the reason I ask.. I have had a couple of "Acronis is not responding" hangs.. so may be its internal DB goes corrupt?
Anyway - rather than me speculate.. anyone any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help.

An disk/partition incremental back up can get pretty big if disk defrag software runs and changes defrags a bunch of files. Although there are no changes in the files themselves, the sectors on the disk have been updated.
A file backup can get big when big files like outlook archives are just accessed by Outlook or even some search engines.
