"GetDriveLayout: CreatFile fail ! Access is denied"
"GetDriveLayout: CreatFile fail ! Access is denied"
I get the above error when attempting to clone a disk. It repeatedly appears in a pop-up box. Any advice would be much appreciated. I was going to attach a screenshot but the attachment button on this forum is not working.
System:
Windows XP Home SP2

Thanks for your reply. I am indeed using the latest build. I also downloaded the trial version of TI 2010 and the issue is present there. As I mentioned in my original post, I'm running Windows.

Looks like this is a few months old with no solution. I just upgraded to 2010 and having the same problem. I am recovering an image to a new disk. Really need a solution for this, it has been happening for a long time now.

Hello Keith and George,
I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to solve the issue.
If you have VIA chipset and don’t use RAID arrays than remove VIA Raid Tool it will take care of “GetDriveLayOut” error. Then update all VIA drivers using official web site here.
Keith have you tried to use Acronis bootable disc for cloning? Do you receive the same error?

I'm sorry Dmitry, I'm not prepared to mess around with all of that in the hope that it might work. I didn't buy Acronis software in order to beta test it. It would be better if Acronis concentrated on releasing, fixing, and maintaining a single, solid product instead of rushing out a new buggy, chargeable release every 12 months.
I've used Acronis for a number of years, but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle any longer. Disk is cheap, Win7 has backup built in and there are plenty of other solutions around.

Neither one of these solutions is going to work for me. I have customers computers that have VIA chipsets running RAID 1 arrays. It is imperative that these backups work without intervention from the customer, these are mission critical backups. I have included Acronis with the automated backup solution that I am setting up for small companies, but I cannot have these kind of issues. Occasional issues with software is to be expected, but not addressing and correcting these issues is not. Cannot 'compute with confidence' when your backup is throwing undecipherable error messages at you.
