Everyone,

For you Vista/Windows 7 users, Microsoft added a new feature to the OS, which allows to you set the I/O Priority of a process -- system or user. A great (and free) tool to do this is called Process Hacker 2.5, which you can download here:

After installing and running, find the process 'afcdpsrv.exe', then Right-click and select Miscellaneous -> I/O Priority -> Very Low.

I have read that only two I/O Priorities are functional -- "Very Low" & "Normal," so do not bother with the other choices.

Once you do this, Acronis NSB will no longer "take over" your computer, cause it to freeze, become unresponsive, BSoD, etc. The program will run just fine, as it should as a background process.

P.S. You can also set CPU Affinity and/or priority to help control NSB's "voracious" appetite! A command-line option is also available for Process Hacker:

I tried this with Acronis True Image Home 2011, build 6868 and this workaround helped out a lot, I can now actually use my computer while the nonstop backup is running. Now if they could just put this simple fix in the product instead...
