Getting confused between file and partition backup and more

Thread needs solution

Hi

OK, best start by describing my system.

I have three internal drives.
500GB SSD C drive
1TB D drive
1TB F drive (old drive in new system)

External 2TB E-SATA drive for back ups.

All has been well for a while but now that I am filling up the system things have started to go wrong.
The sum of my combined drives is just under 2TB at the moment.

I started with partition backups of all internal drives.
Incremental and more or less monthly.

For photos and videos because I do a fair bit I have incremental weekly backups arranged.

One off backups for iTunes and other music as it does not change often.

Weekly incremental backup of important documents to the D drive.

But I am confused, because of course the partition backups also contain the files I am backing up more regularly, so in fact I am repeating some of them.

Can I recover individual files from partition backups?

I'd be most grateful if someone could help me sort out my backup procedures.
Incremental, full I understand but I see also differential and more.

Thanks in advance

Mike

Yes, you may recover individual files from a disk/partition backup.

Personally, I don't use ATI for file backups. I use ATI for system imaging, and use a separate application (Robocopy) for file-based backups which are backed up in their native/original format. I feel that is a better backup strategy, at least for me, than putting everything into .tib archives.
