gmail notifications not working
I am setting up new schemes because of problems with the old ones, but my email notifications do not work. I have set up with Send to: (username@gmail.com). Server: smtp.gmail.com 587 TLS, verification checked, and Username@gmail.com Password: Gmail Password. I get a server error and no test email. I am using Build 6613.
Thank you Steve, but that doesn't address my problem. I have been running ATI for a number of years and getting the notifications. I uninstalled and upgraded to 2020 and these same settings worked fine. Being unhappy with the .tibx files, I went back to ATI2015 and suddenly these settings do not work. I am not running a firewall and my emails are not going to Spam. I get "Failed to send the test email. Mail server error." I tried with two different gmail addresses with the same results. Do you have any other ideas?
Robert, I have been using gmail to send notifications from ATI for some years and this is still working just fine for me today, which suggests that something in your emails settings is not correct, assuming you have already followed the steps given in the linked document:

In particular the Gmail option for 'less secure apps' has been enabled.
If you want an additional method of check that you are using the correct credentials, I have a small Powershell script you are welcome to use for this ( see zipped file attached).
To use the Powershell script, you will need to first launch the application from the Windows Start Menu option - I would recommend using the PowerShell ISE option as is easier to use.
Next, you will need to issue the command:
Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned -Scope Process
Type this into the lower panel of the ISE and press Enter. This is required because all scripts are disabled by default in Windows.
Now open the EmailTest.ps1 script into the top ISE panel to show the code.
You will need to make some changes for your Gmail email address and the address where you want to send a test mail to. Save the script after making the changes.
Click on the I> icon to run the script and send a test email using your credentials.
Note: on the first time run, you will be shown a pop-up box asking you to enter your email address and password credentials to be used by the script. These will be stored in your default Windows Temp folder.
Thanks again, Steve. Your script worked perfectly, but upon transferring the settings to Acronis, I still come up empty.
Using extended settings (so I can enter the "From" email address) I enter the $EmailTo value in the "To" block in Acronis, the $User value into the "From" block. Server settings are "smtp.gmail.com", "587", and "TLS". I have SMTP authentication checked. I have tried with "Log into incoming mail server both checked and unchecked. When checked, I use POP.gmail.com and Port 995. I'm baffled. BTW I use Outlook 2010 so the "less secure apps" are turned ON.
Robert, glad the script worked ok. I have only used the smtp.gmail.com & port 587 with my own email notifications, not using the older POP option & port.
The settings that I use are shown in the image below (from ATI 2020) with some details obscurred for security reasons. Nothing is entered into the From: field!

Robert, I just installed a copy of ATI 2015 #6613 in a Windows 7 VM and tested using my Gmail email for the notifications settings and it works just fine for me!
Hmmm. Very Strange. I tried sending to a non-gmail account with the same results. I guess I'll get along without notifications.

Robert, going back to near the start of this topic where you stated the above.
When you uninstalled ATI 2020 and reinstalled ATI 2015 did you do a fully clean install by using the Acronis Cleanup Tool after the 2020 uninstall? (link in my signature to the tool).
If not, then I would suggest trying a clean install including using the tool, so that there is nothing left-over from the later version.
I would also recommend reconsidering using ATI 2020 again as Acronis are committed to fixing some of the key issues with .tibx files, though this is probably going to be in the ATI 2021 version when that gets released later this year. There will be a Beta testing opportunity for 2021 coming up soon which is a good way to get your feedback heard by the Acronis developers.

I did use the cleanup tool after I uninstalled 2020. I also tried a repair of 2015, yesterday. I may do it all again, just to be sure. There must be something in the install, as Notifications were working before the original uninstall.
I would not be averse to going back to 2020, but it caused me problems with my Backblaze cloud backup. It started over every time I did an incremental, as it wasn't finished with the Full backup. (as I said before, my internet connection isn't that fast.) I use the standalone version of ATI for 1 computer, so I wouldn't want to upgrade now and then again at the end of the year. Since I only use it to backup and restore a couple of disks, I'm not sure that 2020 would do any more for me than 2015 does.
Robert, what exactly was the issue you had with your Backblaze cloud backup and ATI 2020?

Backblaze started uploading my D: drive backup on 5/5. As I recall, this was a .tibx file with a full and 2 incrementals. Backblaze doesn't give me a rundown on megabytes backed up, but reports in parts of the file. On 5/5, it had backed up 418 parts. Over the next week, on 5/12 it was up to part 11060. During the night of 5/12, an incremental occurred and on 5/13 morning, it reported that it was backing up part 538 of the file and the overall mb to be uploaded had increased. My assumption is that when the file changed, it started over. The file never showed up on Backblaze's website as having been uploaded. That's when I decided to go back to ATI 2015 where the full backups and incrementals were separate files.My upload speeds never seem to go over 2 mbs and during the day, it is sometimes under 1mbs. Right now it is uploading at 1.04 mbs. Hope this helps.
Robert, thanks for the explanation which shows that Backblaze is not intended to backup large files which have changed partially in the way that using a tool such as Rsync would do.
Incremental backups using .tibx format in ATI 2020 are all consolidated within a single file and from your description, Backblaze is restarting the backup based on the fact that the file has changed, not just identifying the changes to the file and only uploading those changes.
From my reading of the information provided by Backblaze about their application, it is intended to be used as an actual backup application, i.e. to backup the same source data that you have already used for the ATI backup, in which case, it would do the same as ATI does in identifying the changes since the previous backup was made and upload only those changes to its cloud servers.
While it is possible to fool ATI 2020 into creating Disk incremental backups using the older .tib format from earlier versions, there is no guarantee that this will continue to be possible. ATI 2020 differential backups do still create separate .tibx files which should work better with Backblaze than using incrementals, but the downside of differentials are that they will increase in size with each new file due to the nature of this type of backup which captures all changes since the initial full backup was created for the chain.

I've debated with myself over whether or not I need to send the Acronis backup files to the cloud, since it is such a trial. I guess i'm just over reacting to possible disaster. Certainly an on site complete backup has saved my rear several times. I tend to try risky stuff with my computer and sometimes things backfire. Backblaze's cloud backup of the C: drive doesn't offer the same protection that I get with ATI, so I guess i'm just trying to protect myself against a total disaster like a tornado or fire, that destroyed my computer and all my drives.
