going to update 6525 to 6613- concerns

Thread needs solution

I'm currently using 6525 and it works though I dislike the W10 style user interface on my W8.1 system. I much preferred the older style UI.

Anyway, I keep getting this tray popup about 6613 being available. I read the release notes- nothing in there makes me want to urgently install the update, but I suppose I will.

Will the backups made with 6525 still be OK with 6613? Will I need to create a new boot disk to work with 6613?

And, most important of all- do I need to first uninstall 6525? Or, will the installation of 6613 handle that correctly by first uninstalling 6525 for me?

In the release notes- I don't see anything about Acronis attempting to go back to the older UI.

I always dread updates of all programs. Though they usually happen without problems, when they do, they give me a massive headache.

I currently have 6613 installed. When I upgraded from 6625, it did just that. There was no install (ie like going to a different version), just a quick upgrade. My old backup TIB's were acceptable by 6613, however I did not attempt a full restore. As far as the Recovery Media goes, I did create a new disk, because 6625 could not see my USB 3.0 drives, while 6613 does.

Good Luck

OK, I found that the popup failed- it said it couldn't access the internet. Acronis techs, please check that out! I then loaded the program and did the download/update from there- which went smooth. I'll later have it make a new boot disk and see if it's any different.

PS: so, the program seems to have solved (for most people) the external drive access problem. I presume they will not bring back the old UI. It bugs me that Microsoft is pushing so hard for everyone to move to W10- and most software companies are playing along, pushing us to update all their programs. Yet, I see nothing indicating W10 is a winner. I think Microsoft has been losing ground in recent years, while the Mac is growing ever more popular- so Microsoft is trying to fight back with W10, but it's irritating to always be doing upgrades.

storageman, strange but true- today my system got messed up- not sure why, but the only significant thing I did was the ATI 2015 update....

an hour after updating to 6613, I noticed I my Outlook program was having trouble with email- I tested the email access from my back up computer, and it was OK on that system.... so I thought--- "now what- how to fix this stupid problem?"- so, I did a system Restore- but that really messed up the system- with a problem I've had before, with this new Dell purchased last fall... what happens is that when the system boots up, everything goes in slow motion- very, very slow- I then tried an older system Restore- neither fixed this problem

so, I resorted to doing trying a full disk restore with ATI 2015 of a backup done this morning, after installing 6613--- lo and behold, it succeeded... so far, so good and my email is working too .... but, having a number of problems with this PC, I'm now tempted to finally give up on PCs and go to a Macintosh....
