Your post lacks detail about what type of backup you used, where it was stored, what commands you used, any error messages, whether you validated the backup, etc. Even the thread title is entirely non-informative.

To obtain help in user forums, you need to write clearer more detailed posts. This article may help:

Was this a full disk backup?
Did you validate the backup?
Where was the backup stored?
Have you ever recovered files before?
What disk is unallocated?: is it the D: partition, or the entire drive?

I suspect that you did not use the file recovery process, but instead began a disk or partition recovery which therefore wiped out the partition. I know a user who did exactly that, as he was unfamiliar with the software and starting using commands without checking the manual or tutorials to learn the correct procedure.

If as Tuttle thinks you had wanted to recover files and you D: partition had files on it that you needed to keep, don't do anything else to the D: partition, don't write to it or try to recover again. You might be lucky and be able to recover the deleted contents of the drive using an undelete program, if you want to use Disk Director to do this you will need to purchase a copy as the trial won't allow you to use it on partitions more than 100MB. However there are partition/file recovery programs available that will attempt to recover that are either free or have a trial version.
