HARD DRIVE FAILURE & RECOVERY

Thread needs solution

I have an HP laptop with 2 hard drives. Drive #2 is beginning to fail and I need confirmation which True Image backup options are the best.

I may remove the bad HD or replace it - this creates a "Dissimilar" machine for the restore.

This leaves only a "C" drive or a new "D" drive and the original "C" drive.

Should I use the "Acronis Universal Restore" process to create a boot disk?

What backup method should I use to restore the OS and programs?

You don't need Universal Restore to replace a HDD. Is drive 2 data only? If so then run a files and folders backup and then restore them to the new drive. If the drive contains the OS then make a backup disk image of the drive and restore that image to the new drive.

I have decided to replace the main drive (C:) and remove the second failing (D:) drive (From 2 drives to 1). The new Seagate drive will have no OS nor programs and data. Essentially an empty box.

I have backed up the “Entire PC” to my “Network Place” which is a Network Attached Storage” (NAS) drive.

Please tell me what Acronis steps that I need to start & restore my OS and programs to the new drive?

The question I posted 09/04/2015 is not answered.

The file you sent to me was not helpful.

Please reread my upgrade situation and let me know how to proceed. The new drive (C:) will need all the original OS and programs restored from the old drive (C:).
Which type of boot disk shouled I create to restore the backup?

PS I will have True Image 2016 when this upgrade will take place.
