Hard drive suddenly nearly full

I have had Acronis True Image 2015 for a few months. I am backing up my C Drive to an external hard drive. I am suddenly noticing that my C Drive is nearly full. It is about a 300gb drive and I now have only 12 GB available.

My programmes total around 13gb. Windows 50gb and users 50gb. Very little in the way of videos,music, pics. I am wondering what else could be filling up my hard drive. Perhaps a backup is somehow going to my C Drive as well? I know Windows 7 has a Data drive. Also, from April there is a folder on my C Drive called MATS.

Would much appreciate any advice - otherwise soon my C Drive will be completely full - I think!

this is not an acronis question.

I am not sure what the rules are about linking to third party software, but there exists freeware for determining what is consuming your disk.
