HD USB Cloning Acronis True Image 2013

Thread needs solution

Hi
I'm very grateful for any insights.
I have Acronis on my pc.
I have two Toshiba Sat Pro's I bought for my kids a few years ago.
One had the HD fail and I cant recover, even with specialized software.
Yes, I made recovery discs with the recovery creator. Luckily, my son has used them as ninja tool.
So, I have another laptop HD from an Asus. I have wiped it clean and formatted to MBR, basic.
I took the laptop that is good, its recovery disc is not loading. So I tried to make another recovery disc form that laptop and use it on the new hardrive. No go, the good lappie is not allowing any reocvery discs to be created, just fail. I have a few different HD adapters.
I have taken both HD's and put them into two different HD adapters and plugged them into my pc via usb.All good and readable. I get up to turning of pc to continue cloning and it fails.
Is this because its a usb port? I'm baffled, which isn't hard I sill have a Rubik's cube with stickers torn off and re-glued in my bottom drawer.

Greetings,
I'm not following all of your post about ninja disks and throwing stars, but when you clone, you put in the target disk in place of the disk its replacing. The source disk can be connected via USB. Boot from Acronis boot media to perform the operation. Maybe you could elaborate a little more for us so we have a better idea of what you are working with.

This is a helpful KB article / Cloning How To (with ATIH 2014) Premise is the same.
