from HDD to SDD with True Image 2013

Thread needs solution

hello !

i want to migrate my win8.1. from HDD to SDD by

1. backup system- and startpartion on HDD with trueimage home 2013
2. install SDD
3. recovery of both partitions from the backup on that SDD
4. make SDD the bootable device
5. if everything works fine: delete win8.1. from HDD

are there any further steps neccessary (i.e. trimming and so on ?)

thanks for Feedback!

Kurt

PS:

if not absolutely necessary i won't reinstall my win81.1 and will wait for win10 to make a
clean Installation on the ssd

Perform a Disk Mode backup to insure you have an image that contains all partitions on the disk including any hidden partitions. A typical Win 8 install has a minimum of 4 to 5 partitions. Validate the backup image after the backup completes. Once validated you can restore the image to the SSD. Insure that the SSD works before you delete the contents of the HDD. If your SSD has been used prior to this you should wipe the drive using the derive manufacturer provided tools is available to insure a clean reset drive.

I would like to know if you have to do the restore even "MBR and 0 track".

Thank and regards.

When restoring to a different drive, then you should restore the MBR and Track 0 data as this will not be present on the new drive.  It is only suggested to not restore the MBR and Track 0 data when restoring to the same drive.

I want to know if the following procedure to migrate from an HDD to an SDD is correct:
1) HDD backup;
2) SDD installed on the PC without initialization;
3) restore the PC.

Thanks and regrds.

That is correct.

Perform the restore after booting from the ATI bootable Rescue Media. In fact, you could also create the backup with the ATI bootable Rescue Media. As Enchantech advised, do a Disk Mode backup, selecting the entire drive so that all partitions are included.
