HELP ATI 2015 Trial - Installation Failed - Could not open key : Unknown
Hi All,
Registered for a trial, downloaded the installer, ran the installer BUT the installation fails with :
'Could not open key : UNKNOWN
\Components
\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8
\68AB67CA7DA7FFFFB7449A0100000010
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support...
I repeated this process 3 times, each time getting the same result.
The solution according to the Acronis website is to modify registry keys to allow the installer to work.
Questions.
1. Where in the registry is the relevant key, given that there is no clear path provided on the alert message.
2. What is wrong with the supplied installer if the end user has to start modifying registry keys to get them to work. This is the only program I've ever installed on this laptop that has needed registry edits to work. (Ie. is there not a better installer available??).
NB. The default user running the installer is an 'Administrator' of the computer.
3. Why is the installer not saved to a known hard drive location for re-use? I had to re-download the 300MB+ file before querying where it was hidden when running.
Attached is both the error message and the install log file.
Thanks in Advance.
Matt.

Jeff, welcome to these user forums.
What actual product, version and build are you trying to install here? The original poster had ATIH 2015 Trial product but that has not been available to download for some time. The current trial product is ATIH 2017 build 5554 which you can download by visiting:
http://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/computer-backup/ then click on Try at the top of the page (left of the Upgrade button) - this will ask for your email address to send you a license key for a 30-day trial.
If you have previously had another version of Acronis True Image installed on your computer, then I would recommend downloading the Acronis Cleanup Tool from the link below in my signature - run this as Administrator and it will remove any residue of old versions etc. You should restart the computer to complete the cleanup action.

The version that I acquired came from crucial.com/acronis as a part of purchasing a new SDD drive and migrating from an old HDD to the new SDD. I have gone through the process on a different computer with no problems at all.

Jeff, thanks for clarifying the product / version.
Please see KB document: 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products as your Crucial version is OEM software and is likely to be an older build and possibly with limited functionality.
If you have installed the same software on a different computer, then please check the actual installed version & build - a number of the OEM products are advertised as ATIH 2015 but in reality may be the 2014 version. This may seem like a minor point but only 2015 or later are supported for install on Windows 10 systems, which would affect some users. I note that you are using Windows 7 Pro so that shouldn't be an issue.
