Help with ATI ver. 11

Thread needs solution

Not sure if this is in correct sub forum - please move if not.

I have used ATI ver. 11 on an XP box that was recently replaced with a new box running Win 7 64 bit. I have two issues:

1) I need to free up the encrypted potion of an external drive (via ATI ver.. 11) so that I can use the whole drive again. This was the drive that I used for my back ups, but only needed half so partitioned in half. I now need the whole thing and don't need the backup any more. I know that I could have done that on the XP box but that is not an option now. I'm not sure I can load ver. 11 on the Win 7 64 bit OS. Is there a way to accomplish this, i.e. essentially format thewhole external drive so that I can use the whole thing?

2) I would buy ATI 2010 home, but I'm unclear if it will run properly in the Win 7 64 bit OS. I've read the Acronis site and looked through the forums, but I'm still not clear on this. Will ATI 2010 run properly on Windows 7 64 bit edition?

Thanks.

1. TI 11 won't run on W7 systems.

2. TI 2010 will run on W7 systems (I use W7 64bit Ultimate)

As far as your external drive is concerned, if you are happy to lose all the data that is on this drive then a simple format using the XP or W7 disk editor will suffice - you might need to disable the encryption on the second partition.

However, if you need to preserve what you have on the first partition whilst extending it to take up all the space used by the second encryped partition you need to use either something like DD10 (it won't install on W7 so you'd either need the rescue Cd or to perform this using XP) or if using W7, then the W7 disk manager can delete or extend partitions.

I've not used the W7 diskmanager for this, so don't know of any restrictions or pitfalls when using it.

Thanks. Assuming I buy and load ATI 2010, will it be able to read the backup from ver. 11 on the external HD?

Thanks again.

Hello BB and Colin,

Let me clarify this situation.

Colin, thank you for the correct suggestions!

Thanks. Assuming I buy and load ATI 2010, will it be able to read the backup from ver. 11 on the external HD?

Yes, we do not expect any difficulties in this case. I'd recommend you to download the trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2010 in order to see how it works on your computer. The functional limitation of Acronis True Image trial version is that you can only use a software for 15 days. Windows version is fully functional  and it does not have any more limitations.
Bootable CD from trial version can be used for recovery only.

The detailed information about backups compatibility between different versions is available here.

Please feel free to ask if you have any additional questions.
