Help, Please Win 10 install has killed my PC

Thread needs solution

I tried installing Windows 10 and I now have PC that can't boot. I can see all my files on my system. But when I boot I get the following message:
File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD
Status 0xc000000f
I suspect this could be fixed with a boot record repair software but I have no idea what to use or how to use it.

So I tried to run True Image 2015 (latest version for Win 10) by booting off True Image DVD. When I click on "My Disks" under "Recover", all I get is "Analyzing Partition '1-1'" box for over 30 minutes. Is this normal. Or is True Image going to let me down when I need it most?

I am really desperate now. I just don't know what to do. PLEASE HELP.

It sounds like you need support for your Windows OS, not Acronis. Like 7 & 8, windows 10 install media comes with a start up repair option.

From the sounds of it you may have a problem with the SSD and I would create a windows PE boot disk or linux live cd (whatever you are comfortable with) and see if can access the disk, perhaps repartition the disk, etc without receiving errors/hang ups. So basically, some level of health check using alternate boot media. It sounds like you should have a good backup on hand.

I haven't messed with Acronis recovery cd long enough to see if it has utilities to check/repartition the disk.

I can say that I have successfully restored a Windows 7 backup after having gone to Windows 10. I was able to initiate the restore while in Windows 10 and it rebooted to the startup recovery tool that acronis has (proper name escapes me).

You just have an issue with your boot records, not with the disk.
If you boot your computer on the windows installation CD/flash drive, you should be able to repair the startup of your computer. Either with the high level repair startup option, of with the built in DOS commands.
As dblade indicates, you can also find tools to edit and fix the boot records, but setting up these tools is a tad more involved.

I was unable to use any of the repair options available to me on the Windows 10 or Windows 7 installation disks. Nothing worked, including command line boot record fixes.

I was able to boot off Acronis True Image 2015 rescue disk and restore back to my Windows 7 configuration from my continuous backup image. (The complex options I was forced to go through to restore MBRs, FAT32s & NTFSs to my SSD & hard disk had me pulling my hair out! I would have thought there would be a more intelligent 'wizard'.) In the end it worked. But not perfectly.
I had to reactivate my Windows 7 software with Microsoft. (MS accused me of having a non-genuine copy of the software.)
Firefox seemed to have lost some of its settings (but not anything important.)
My mail filtering software (Mailwasher Pro) kept telling me its database was corrupted. I had to completely uninstall (including settings) & reinstall & then re-enter all my settings.

I am not sure what problems I will encounter as I start up other software over the next few days. So Acronis's restore functionality is not perfect.
But at least I am up & running again.

WIth the 2015 version, Acronis is now using the Microsoft Shadow Copy service to backup open or system files. There is an exclusion list to this service in the registry, so not all content is backed up by Acronis. You can either backup using the recovery CD, or edit the registry to remove some exclusions.

could you please give more information on these exclusions? Where do I find this in the registry?
I had a similar issue a couple of weeks ago and want to avoid this in the future.

By the way, you are using a rather old build 6055 of ATI 2015 - any special reson for this?

This is very concerning. It seems to indicate Acronis no longer provides a full image of your hard disk. Do you have any documentation for this "feature"?

I used TI many years now and saw it growing more complex every new release. So, now I can't even trust that TI makes a complete image of my system because maybe some registry items were not backupped?
