Help with RAID0 Recovery on Windows 7
Hello All
I currently have a Dell XPS system running Windows 7 on a RAID0. I have 2 750GB SATA drives giving me about 1.5TB of space. Today my Intel Rapid Storage software indicated that my ARRAY0 was having problems... so want to take care of this, but not sure about the best way of doing it.
I would like to do the following. Purchase a single 2TB SATA drive, copy the image from failing RAID0 on to that 2TB drive (and increasing my disc from 1.5 to 2). After the image has been created, remove the 2 SATA drives and boot from the single 2TB drive.
I just purchased the Acronis True Image software thinking this will be the best tool for the job, but unsure what the best procedure is.
Here is the catch.. I'm hoping I can do this without rebooting the machine (until I need to swap the drives). I don't know how stable the RAID0 is currently and don't want to risk too many reboots.
I saw issues with 'cloning' to an external drive, which I'm assuming that I have to do. If not, I won't be able to pull the 2 drives (RAID0) as an external and copy to the new drive. So.. not sure what to do about that.
Not sure about how to handle the boot loader with the new drive, and if the image will handle this.
Not sure about eliminating the RAID controller (assuming I can just delete the RAID).. or possibly create a RAID1 Mirror instead.
So... I thought I would post these questions first before I jump into the deep end of the pool.
Thanks for the help in advance!
