Help Recovering Backup

Thread needs solution

I have Acronis True Image 2010 and diligently backed up my hard drive to an external USB drive. Now I need to recover the backup but I am not finding the process as easy as it says on the box "restore your entire PC within minutes with just a few simple clicks". It's asking me all these questions I don't understand even after reading the help file. It seems to want to make a new partition and looked like it was going to default write over the external USB drive so I didn't proceed. Then it wanted to write to D: but surely the destination needs to be C:
C: is grayed out

Is there an easy You Tube tutorial or something covering recovery process for this version?

Michael, welcome to these user forums.

Please see forum post: 117004: Great Acronis "How-To" videos and other Acronis Resources for some good video resources that may help your understanding of how to recover your system.

What version of Windows do you have on your computer?

Have you created the Acronis bootable Rescue Media to use for doing the restore?  If not, then download a copy of this from your Acronis account in a CD image format (.ISO file) that can be burnt to CD media.

System restore actions should always be performed using the Acronis Rescue Media to boot the computer.
Note: The rescue media boots into a Linux environment where drive letters may change, so please check carefully that you are selecting the correct drives for your source and targets when restoring.  It can be helpful to give the drives meaningful names that show which is which where possible.

Thanks Steve, I have Windows 7 and have used both the boot disk supplied with the software as well as my own rescue boot disk I made.
I watched some videos and what I'm not sure of is how to recover over the C: drive as that is grayed out in my case?

Michael, due to the age of ATIH 2010 I can only direct you to the user guide for this product which has detailed information on performing a number of different recovery scenarios - all in Chapter 10 of the user guide.

If you are still having problems then please try to capture some screen images of the steps you are following (using your phone or a digital camera) and post these to the forum (reduce the image size using a tool such as IrfanView to make it easier to upload, especially if you have a HD camera/phone).
