Hello Karl!

Thank you for your question and for finding time to open the thread regarding it!

I will be glad to provide you with the detailed answer, but for it I need to know some particular details regarding the scenario you would like to proceed. Could you please kindly give us more details rearding it?

Thank you!

If I may jump in on this ... I'll guess that the OP probably means HIPAA (not HIPPA) compliance.

Here's a quick quote about HIPAA from an article in "The Register" -

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/01/19/health_net_hipaa/

HIPAA is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. Part of it refers to national US standards for electronic health care transactions and individual's privacy for businesses such as Health Net.

I first learnt about HIPAA when I saw an excellent reply to the same question on the Jungle Disk Forum over a year ago ... (If only more organisations understood that 'security' is a system-level issue, and isn't just about any single aspect!) -

There's a link on this next page to a Whitepaper from Amazon about their S3 cloud storage HIPAA compliance (see the "Interested in HIPAA-Compliance?" link at the bottom of the left-margin) -

http://aws.amazon.com/s3/

and here's a cautionary comment (now over a year old) from CloudSecurity.org about that Amazon Whitepaper -

"Is Amazon AWS Really HIPAA Compliant Today?"
