How to backup Raid5 in acronis True Image 2015

Thread needs solution

Hi Guys,

I'm planning on creatin a backup image on our server that is currently configured Raid5.

When choosing what drive to backup i see two Disk with same memory capacity 1.81TB Disk 2 and Disk 4.

Can someone explain to me how to backup on Raid5 using Acronis True Image 2015?

Thanks,

Ryan

Ryan,

Looking at your attachment, it looks like the Raid5 is a software raid where Windows or some other software product performs the raid functions.  Also, it appears you are booted from rescue media to perform the backup.  If I am correct, the problem is that rescue media is running under Linux, and will not see the software raid...it sees 2 separate drives.

Have you tried setting up the backup with ATI 2015 running under Windows?

If my guesses are off, please describe your hardware configuration and I will do some research on possible solutions.

Hi FtrPilot,

Thank you for the response.

Yes you are correct with the raid has been setup by a software from lenovo and yes about the booted from rescue media to do the backup.

Have you tried setting up the backup with ATI 2015 running under Windows?

No i haven't tried it yet.

The server i'm using is a lenovo system x with 1TBx3 and was configured through a software called ServerGuide.

Proc:Xeon E3-1220 v3 @3.10GHz

Model: IBM System x3250 M5

OS:windows server 2012 R2

Thanks,

Ryan

Ryan,

I am not sure if ATI2015 will run under Windows Server 2012.  However, if you can access the Raid5 from another computer, you should be able to setup and perform the backup from the other computer.

Hi FtrPilot,

Not sure how to do that to run a backup using a different computer? im clueless o_o..

Thanks,

Ryan

Running the backup from another computer would be fairly easy if the Raid5 were mapped to a Drive letter, such a I:\.  Even if the Raid5 is not mapped, you should be able to use the \\servername\folder\ in ATI to access the folder.

If Windows Explorer can see the drive from the other computer, than ATI should also be able to see the drive from the other computer.  If ATI sees the Raid5, then the next hurdle is Network Login, password & permissions.

The Rescue media does have networking capability, but you may have to type in the IP (network) address of the server.

As far as other options...I don't know a lot about software raids.  So,  can't really make a recommendation with certainty.
