How to clear backup locations/rename image

Thread needs solution

After several backups, Acronis True image 2014 keeps a listings of old backup locations from a drop down menu. Is there any way to clear this?

Also, once a backup is completed, i want to rename the archive name other than what acronis decided to use for me, how is this done ?

The answer to your first question is yes, there is a way to remove the list of old backups in ATI2014. On the ribbon menu at the top of the backup and recovery screen you should see what appears to be two gears with a down arrow beside them. If you click on the down arrow you will see an option to remove from the list which will permit you to remove all backups in the list or simply the ones that have not been backed up yet. Be careful not to use the gear beside each of the backups instead of the one at the top of the screen because there are options that will remove the file from the list as well as the backup itself.

As to your second question, it is easier to simply provide the name you want to use in the settings window when you are creating the backup itself. However, if you need to change the name you can simply use windows explorer to change the name. Just make sure that you leave the volume number on each segment of the backup if you split the backup into individually sized files and end the rename with .tib (i.e. the original name, "Vertex_3_full_b2_s1_v1.tib" through "Vertex_3_full_b2_s1_v5.tib" could be re-named "Laptop_(11-18-13)_1.tib" through "Laptop_(11-18-13)_5.tib" respectively). I have not found any way to prevent the extra information that true image adds as a suffix when creating the backups and it takes too long to continually rename the files so I have just gotten used to the naming convention that gets added to the name that I use when creating the backups. You need to consider that renaming the backups will also affect the list of backups displayed in the true image windows and also the scheduler if you are allowing automatic scheduled backups so creating the name that you want when you create the backup is realy the best option.

Good luck.

Virgil Britt, Thanks for your reply but that did not answer my question. Perhaps I wasn't clear. When I perform a backup in Acronis True Image 2014 and choose a different destination path/folder to back up to. Acronis keeps a listing of those locations/directories.

Such as "e:\My backups", over time, the drop down list accumulates a lot of folders that don't exist anymore as I move the image offline and these are only temporary folders to be backed up to. How do i clear that drop down listing ?

You are correct, I did not understand exactly what you were talking about. I went over to the partition backup section of True Image and added a new path by browsing a temporary folder on my machine. Now I have two folders listed in the path drop down list. Like you, I can not figure out a way to remove the extra path that is listed in the drop down list. Usually you can highlight one of the extra entries and hit the delete key to get rid if it, but that doesn't work either. Now I have a extra path listed myself. I may hack around in the registry to see if I can find where that is stored to see if I can edit it out. If I can figure out a way I will let you know.
