How come Email backups takes longer than partition backups...?
Hello,
I'm some what perplexed that email backups take longer to backup than a partition backup...? Why is this please because I cannot fathom out why this is the case. Say for example the partition backup is 20.4GB which takes about 28 minutes to backup to a server. I've backed up the emails to a internal 1TB partitioned in half which is 465.80 for Applications and then other is for Daily Backups, emails and files that's all. But backing up emails takes longer. In fact it stated saying 1 minute remaining which eventually went upwards to 28 minutes and I canceled the backup because it was taking so long.
Backing up to server instead and it is the same takes for ever to backup the emails and email profiles. I do have a lot of email accounts to backup, considering that email profile accounts are relatively small compared with the partition backup it should sail through...?
Nope it doesn't... 50 minutes now and continuing to clime. will update throughout backup. This is inane because the status bar hasn't moved an inch since it started and it is still in the same place as before. This is utter nonsense, this should have finished ages ago and it's still backing up. WTH is going on here. This isn't right is it... I've canceled it because it is just inane to be taking this long to backup emails and profiles is just ridiculous, PST files are 949mb which is not that big.
I have tried it all ways and it states that it is going to take an hour and a half to backup and believe me this will increase.

The difference is that email backup is done using MAPI interface, partition backup is performed using direct disk access.
