How to create partition in unallocated space on cloned disk. with True Image WD edition.
I want to clone my system disk onto a new bigger disk. But want to create an extra partition as well for backups. The system disk has 3 partitions, and the clone operation goes ok, I copy the partitions without resizing, ie AS IS option, and there is then a big chunk of unallocated space. I can't find an option within TI WD to convert that to an additional partition.
I've also tried to use Windows (XP SP3) Disk Management to use the unallocated space. It sees the free space as unallocated space within an extended partition made up of the 2 non system partitions. When I atttempt to make a new logical disk from this unallocated space, disk management fails with an error saying there has been a problem, restart disk manager or reboot. Disk manager wont restart and after a boot, the rightmost partition has gone. and unallocated space now seems to be increased by the size of the ex-partition.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the response. My aim and idea was to create a clone of a system disk to be available as an immediately available backup, and continue using the original system disk for running. Hence the AS IS clone, I am not interested in the extra space for the system disk itself. But I do want to be able to use the spare space on my new HD for backups and probably other things.
Hence I need to create a partition in the unallocated space left over after the ASIS clone. And it is this that I don't know how to do. I can't find a way to create a partition. Using XP diskmanagement had problems, see earlier, and I can't find the function in TI WD edition.

Bingbob,
If your goal is to be able to get your system back up and running if your disk dies, you should use a disk and partition backup. It is not *immediate* but it will work.
If you clone a disk to a USB disk or internal disk, you will probably run into issues if you boot with the 2 disks in the system. I am afraid your set up will not be reliable to have backups on the cloned disk and have that disk available to restore the backups. Not sure. Did you try to use your system with both the original and the clone in the system?
Maybe you can try some offline partitioning tools (Easus, gpart, etc.) that you can put on a CD and boot your computer on
