How to delete old backups from external hard drive TI2009

Thread needs solution

I have Acronis True Image Home 2009 running on a laptop with Windows 7, and every 4 months or so I use TI2009 to do a "My Computer" backup image of my C:/ drive to an external hard disk via USB. These are each done as a new backup archive using the full backup method, not using incremental backup. I give each of these backups a unique name in the root directory of the external hard drive, e.g. AcronisVaioDiskImage1.tib
I now have a number of sequentially numbered similar image files. I also have a number of other backups of specific folders on my laptop, with different image file names

My external hard disk is now full, and I wish to delete some of the earlier backups, but I cannot find any way to do this.

There does not appear to be any way within the TI2009 programme, and if I try to delete them using Windows Explorer I get the message "This action cannot be completed because the folder is open in COM surrogate" I still get this message even if the TI2009 programme is closed down. I can delete other files and folders on the external hard drive, but not the files with a .tib extension

How do I delete these earlier backups to make room on my external hard drive?

Maurice Clarke

Why don't you boot into Windows Safe Mode and do the deletion from within Windows Explorer there.
