How to delete unrecognized old backup file

Thread needs solution

Hello - when I first ran TI2013, I had errors in my backup file. Also, the program was freezing regularly. I did a re-install and it seems to help, it is running well now and I have a successful disk image made.

However, I have a 32GB TIB file on my backup drive that I can't delete. This was created when I had erros in my backup. When I try to add to the list of backups when I "browse for backups", I get this message:

"Failed to add the backup to the backup list. The folder contains a renamed copy of the same backup, or does not contain the last volume fo the backup."

And when I try to delete in Windows Explorer, it says a file is in use and it can't delete until I close the file. This also was the case after I had uninstalled the program.

Any suggestions on how to delete the file?

Try starting your system up in "Safe Mode" and see if you can delete the file. If not you can use a utility that can "unlock" the file for you. Check out "LockHunter" here: http://lockhunter.com/. It's free and works great for most locked file/folders.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried deleting in safe mode, but got the same response that a file is in use. I will look at lockhunter next.

OK, I tried lockunter, but I got the following message when I tried to select the file in the program:

"Cannot continue the operation because the backup is corrupted, or it is being used by another process, or you do not have enough permissions to perform the operation."

The lock hunter program then froze and I had to stop it with Task Manager.

I tried it a second time and got a similar message that the file was in use by another program.

Any other ideas?

Open Windows Services and disable the True Image services, if Service.msc won't let you disable them, try opening up MSConfig and unticking the True Image entries on the Startup tab, then reboot.

If this doesn't work there is probably another program locking the file.

Thanks, I tried this but it didn't work. One thing that may have been buried in my earlier posts is that even with TI2013 uninstalled, I could not delete the file. You say that another program is locking it, but WHAT other program and WHY would it lock an Acronis backup file?
