How to do a clone without loading acronis system to my hard drive.
This seems like a dumb question, but I am not sure what to do...
I understand I can load acronis home onto my puter to protect me, but all I really want to do is clone a disk. Now it says place the new disk in place on my puter where the old one was located, and place the source in the slave position.
Since I only want to clone source to destination, is it necessary to load the software onto the source and activate it somehome in slave position or is all the clone software on the CD and can be accessed there.
So once I place my good drive in the 2nd slot and the empty disk in the main slot... when I install the cd I do not see anything but a menu to load the system up.. surely it won't load since the boot disk in position 1 will not boot..
What am I doing wrong.. How do I select the clone mode when there is no program on either disk for cloning...
So bottom line, must the acronis system be loaded onto the good drive before I begin the clone process. Or is there a menu item on the Cd that I dont' see that will get the clone started?
Thanks

I think I found the solution, via the ISO to a cd and reboot.
But now I have it booted and went to tools and selected clone, selected the source and destination and then it went to the box called operation status with the check box to shut down puter when done, but it seems to be stuck there, the progress bar says 3 of 5 - Copying Partition and the progress bar has not moved in 15 min... surely that is not correct.
Will reboot and try again.. appears to be hung... any thoughts ideas..

I have my target in the main position, as recommended and the source in position 2 like the slave position. Does it really matter which postiion the drives are in.. as long as the target and source are identified correctly. I even tried the manual mode vice auto but it still seems like it won't go forward.
Surely its not a hour before the progress bar moves is it?

Each drive does have an XP Pro operating system on it, and it did warn me that there might be some important data on the target that will be lost. I acknowledged that was ok... but still hangs...
Ut oh... just started to move.. I shut it down and switched the position of the two drives and now the progress bar is going to town.
2 of 4 Copying Partition... looks like its copying ok now... lord this has been a real challenge.
Will let you know how it comes out..
