How do i make a differential backup

Thread needs solution

Hi guys
Can someone point me in the right direction please, I am using TI 2012 plus pack build 7119 in windows 7 Professional 64 Bit edition.

I have in the past only made full backups but know I want to make a differential backup but I am unable the see how I do this, I have searched this forum and the user guide but I am still no wiser on how to use this method.

I have made a backup and selected the differential version before running the backup and a full backup was made and validated ok.

So my question is how do I add a differential to this backup please.

Ps i am not wanting to setup a scedule backup i would like to do a manual differential if thats possible please.

A full backup is made first. then on the next run, a diff will be made and this will continue up to the user-set limit. Then ati will consolidate the diffs and the full, and start going again from there. The diffs are always differential to some full that was created by that task.

If this is confusing you might be better off sticking with doing full backups -- keep it simple -- when you hdisk quits and you're anxiety is high, that's no time to be sweating the details.

Hi Scott
Thanks for the reply i know what you mean when the anxiety is high and you think you have lost ever thing.
But let me explane a little more. The hard drive all my windows system file are on a dedicated hard drive and i will continue to user the full backup method as a full partition backup.

What i am wanting to do is backup my Data drive as a differential backup. i dont see i would be looking to restore the full drive at once but it would be nice to be able to mount the full backup plus the differentials to cherry pick any files i may have lost.

I understand a full backup is made first and i have set ATI to make a full backup first then upto 5 differentials then another full backup.

But after the first full backup is made i am not able to see how to add the differential backup to the first full backup.

When i have made the backup and and look at ATI backup and recovery screen all the backups i have made are listed there and over to the right hand side there is a small gear wheel icon and then just to the left of that there is a icon that gives me the option to restore only.

There is no add to backup or anything like that

So i must be doing something wrong, i just dont know what.

I would like to know where and in what PDF file supplied by Acronis, it is explained about the making of Differential or Incremental backups and how to proceed in case of disaster afterwards in order to include this backed up material. My version of True Image is 2013

The administrator reply is beyond belief. The question has not at all been answered:
HOW DO I PERFORM DIFFERENTIAL BACKUPS.
I do not want to perform only full backups.
HOW DO I PERFORM DIFFERENTIAL, DIFFERENTIAL, DIFFERENTIALS BACKUPS????
This is such a basic question. I know the difference betwen differential and incremental.
I have ATI 2015.

A good start for you would be to read the directions. IF you can't find them, you can look here for new stuff:

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/index.html

and look here for legacy product documentation:

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/legacy.html

Pay attention to, for example, Section 3.11.4 Custom schemes.

This is basic stuff inthe manual. If you don't want to run a schedule then don't. Just run Diffs. Don't blame the folks have taken time from their own lives to try to help you. NOne of these folks are Acronis staff. Their jsut users try9ing to be helpful. Be grateful, be polite, even if they tried and you could get help.

good luck.
