How do I protect what I have backed up in version 2012 when trialing 2013?
This is a novice question, but as a current user of Tru Image 2012, backing up to an external harddrive, should I be doing anything in particular to protect my backups before installing a trial of the 2013 version? Thanks!
PS: Reading the description, will this new version make it unecessary for me to keep using SugarSync to link photos et al between computers and handhelds?

Otoh, ati2013 seems to be better behaved about instailling over a prior version and respecting settings. Still, use msconfig for uninstalls and installs, and clean installs are always least likely to cause problems.

I would like to follow up on Steve's question (and the answers). And, like Steve, I am not an Acronis "power user". I thought I had read that it is possible that backups done in previous versions of ATIH may not be recoverable by follow-on releases. I have some base backups of my disks that I want to be able to return to (in lieu of rebuilding) in case I need to do so. Therefore, I have some "images" backed up with 2012 that I may want to recover after I have upgraded to 2013. (And, of course, I cannot recreate these backups; because my system has evolved significantly since I created those images.) I assume that the 2013 upgrade replaces 2012 and that I do not keep 2012 installed in case I need to restore a 2012-created backup - or am I wrong?
From the answers above, it appears that "technically" 2013 will recover disk backups created by 2012. Is that a certain fact?
Is the "bootable media" of 2013 fully compatible with 2012 backups? Or is this part of the answer -- boot from 2012 bootable media to recover 2012 disk "images" and use 2013 for any new backup and chains created with 2013?
Thanks is advance for your knowledgeable advice.
George

1. New versions typically will read and restore backups made with previous versions. I've found this to be so.
2. Retain the bootable Recovery Media of previous versions, just in case you need them to restore backups made with those versions. Even when using the current version, you're better to do restores from the bootable Recovery Media anyway.

I agree with Tuttle. Technically, and from experience, new versions can restore backups created by older versions. From experience, it is better to clearly track which backup has been done by which version, and which recovery CD has been created by which version. Some expert users even recommend to do this at the build level. Hence my recommendation.

ati2013 will certainly recover ati2012 tibs -- I did so several times yesterday. Acronis hasn't updated the web page that tells you what versions can restore which, but basically ati2012 reaches way back and I suspect ati2013 reaches just as far. For the yet to be updated page:
