How do I restore hosed Windows 10?

Thread needs solution

I rebooted Windows 10 on my PC the other day and it came up with the Automatic Repair screen.  I tried all repair options and none work.  I have backups from Acronis 2015 on a network share but I can't figure out how to get to the point that I can restore them.  I've tried creating a Windows Universal Restore disk from my wife's laptop but when I go to use the Windows USB/DVD tool to put the ISO onto a USB, it tells me the ISO is invalid.  I have been able to create a universal restore using the default Linux type, but when it boots, the Universal Restore screen has "Select OS" greyed out and it says "Cannot find an operating system on the current machine".  I've also tried downloading the bootable media from the Acronis site, but the Windows USB/DVD tool also tells me that ISO is invalid.

What am I missing?   I'm completely stuck here.

Thank you,

Jason, welcome to these user forums.

First question: why are you using the Acronis Universal Restore disk here?  This is only for use after doing a restore of your Windows OS to different computer hardware, not if restoring a backup image to the same computer where it was taken from.

If you have another computer with ATIH 2015 installed, then you can create the Acronis Rescue Media on that system on either CD/DVD or a USB stick - for the USB stick, this must be connected before starting the Rescue Media Builder and should be from 1GB to 32GB maximum size.

If you don't have another computer with ATIH 2015 installed, then you can sign in to your Acronis account and download the standard, Linux based, Rescue Media as an .ISO image and burn this to CD.  If you want to put the ISO image on a USB stick then you will need to use a utility such as ISOtoUSB to do this.
