How do I specify a different recovery destination? 2011

Thread needs solution

When performing a disk mode recovery there no longer seems to be a way to specify a different destination disk. All I see is "recover now" and NO PREVIEW before proceeding. This is very confusing compared to 2010. How can one clone their system disk this way?

Mart,
Be careful in your terminology here on the forum. Clone and recovery has two different meanings.

If you wish to clone your disk, you need to use the clone option. This will make the target disk the same as the source disk and the target disk contents will be lost.

Or. you can make a backup image of your disk (a compressed file) and that copy can be recovered or restored to the same or larger disk. Single partitons or all partitions can be restored based on user choices when the restore/recovery method is used.

If you want to perform a restore of your system to the same or aonther location, your best chance of a successful conclusion is when the restore is done when booted from the TI Rescue CD and the CD procedures are less confusing as compared to the Windows version.

Thanks! Found the clone option and tested......100mb reserved partition is no longer resized to 781mb so that's a plus.

In the installed version, when you press the "Recover Now" button, you are commited--no turning back or cancel so be watchful. You can still practice performing your intended options but STOP before you press the "Recover Now" option.

In the CD version, you have the summary page which shows what will happen based on the options chosen and you can either click PROCEED or CANCEL. Unfortunately, this option does not exist on the installed version.

I am curious as to what settings you used within the cloning options and did you perform the clone using the CD or Windows version?

I used the Windows version only: I tried both auto/manual settings. Tested the destination HDD by changing Bios boot order and all works great.

Also tried the backup/recover in DISK mode to "clone" the system disk and this worked as well, the only difference from 2010 being that it req'd a reboot after the recover. This is how I would normally use it (rather than Cloning which doesn't save an image) as I take periodic backups of my system drive.

I guess I missed the recovery destination drop down 1st time around since I see them now.

I noticed TI2011 seems somewhat unstable at times as I got a few "stopped working" msgs while navigating the backups, and had to close the program.
