The short answer ... make the bootable Rescue CD, boot with it and use the Recovery feature.

One caution, if you restore XP or higher Windows operating system to a new PC you will face at least two problems:

(1) incompatible hardware
(2) activation

The fix to (1) is usually to perform a repair installation, using a retail CD (or DVD) of the operating system. If you do not have such a CD, then plan on buying one. Note that the cheaper OEM CD will not wrk.

The fix to (2) is to re-activate with Microsoft. If you have a retail version of the operating system, you can re-activate anytime. In fact, if it has been more than about three months since your last activation, it may even happen without human intervention by someone at Microsoft. But, if you have an OEM operating system, reactivation is not permitted, since it is not supposed to be moved from the original hardware (original motherboard).

Good luck.
