How long does it take to delete an archive?

Thread needs solution

I am using True Image Home 2012, build 7119.
I back up to a generously-sized external HD. I tend to use incremental backup for a month or two, then start a new one, with a named month. When trying to remove older archives, using the program (right-click / delete as per instructions) it says "Deleting Archive" (or whatever) and that just goes on for a long time. At least 30 - 45 minutes. These archives are about 65GB. Each time I have had to use Task Manager to stop the program. Is this normal? How long does it take? Or is there something wrong? It is likely that I have, in the past, deleted some archives outside of Acronis. If this is the problem, Is there a way to re-build the catalogue?
Thanks for your help.

Alec,
Other than to say, the deletion time is not normal, it would be hard to say what is normal--maybe a minute or two depending upon how busy the computer is at the time.

Any deletion of archives should be done from within the program via the Acronis Backup explorer time line options.
Delete the newest backup backwards in date.

TrueImage stores it listing of backups in its own database to it would be easy to confuse the program if the program went looking for a backup file which did not exist (a prior manual deletion). This would cause an error and await a user respons--which could easily go unseen in the sys tray.

All of the above is just a guess on my part--as I observe the operation of the program.

One quick fix would be to remove the need for a future deletion procedure.
My suggestion at this point would be to simply start a new backup task with the correct desired parameters.
You can configure the task so it will perform its own automatic deletion based on how many chains of backups you wish to retain.
Once that number of chains is reached, then the program will do its own deletion of oldest chains.
My rule for myself is never make configuration changes in the task. If changes needed, start a new task.
Changes of schedule or turn off schedule can be done from within the task WITHOUT using the edit Settings option.
