how to make a bootable mirror image of my pata c drive

Thread needs solution

I bought ver for 2011 but it upgraded tp 2013. I need a list of how to make a bootable mirror image of my pata c drive to a 500 gig ata drive. I have both pata and stata ports on my mainboard. I have tried but got a drive that is cdfs with apparently a backup of my c drive. I am using an external drive case connected thru a usb port. It took a day and a half. case has a sata connector and I have a sata to esata coming. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My pata drive is a 84 gig and running out of space.

Thanks

Ronald,

Did you make complete disk image? Taking a day and a half to image an 84 gig drive is very long, it should only take around 45 minutes.

The first thing to do is to make a bootable recovery CD, you will need this later. Make sure it canboot your machine and see your external drive.

As you have done already make an image of the complete disk, make sure you have clicked on DISK, you should then see the name of your disk, you shouldn't be seeing partitions listed (that is your C:\) you should just see the disk listed.

Next you select the destination as your external drive, select the image type as FULL, then select the schedule as NOW.

Once this has completed, you are ready to remove your old drive and insert your new 500 GB drive and recover the image, you need to boot from the recovery CD to do this.

See Grover's guides (links below) for some pictures and step by step help on what you should be seeing.

Check that your USB is USB2.0 and if it is and imaging is still very slow, try plugging the drive into a different USB port.

I'm not sure how you got a CDFS on to a hard drive as CDFS is for CD's, were you trying to image to a CD instead of a hard drive, this would take a long time?
