How to recovery a backup ?

Thread needs solution

Hi... How do you do a recovery with 2011 ATI ? I have an image backup on my main c drive which I want to restore onto a different hard drive ? The older version were so simple but now with this version I'm totally lost ... Why does Acronis with each new builds make using their software so much different from previous versions ? Its like each new versions you need to learn a new software . I hate that . 2008,2009,2010 were easy to use now with 2011 I'm lost and I bet 2012 is much harder to use . I'm using xp pro right now and I am trying to restore an backup image which was made by 2011 version . Now I am trying to restore this image onto a hard drive but I'm finding it very hard to do ... What selection do I select to start the process ? Thanks

Hard to tell what you are confused about but you can go to the help guides put together by Grover

You can find the Acronis user guides here:

http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/index.html

Those docs should give you all you need to know. If those instructions are not adequate, then you should probably refer recovery to a more advanced computer user.

The 2012 Bootable media recovery CD is pretty much the same as the last 3 versions. Your best chance of success to to do the restore when booted from the CD. I would not attempt to the restore of the system partition from inside Windows.

The type backup you need is one which includes each and every partition on your current disk. If your backup only includes the 'C" partition, in most instances, this single partition will not be adequate for a successful restore.--but it really depends upon how many and what type partitions you have as demonstrated by the Windows Disk Management console graphical view. An XP system may only have one partition.

Is the new disk the same size or larger. The easiest type restore would be the disk option restore whereby you checkmark the Disk as to what is being restored. TIH will auto resize the partitions but the size may not be to your likings. The summary page will show the intended sizes and you can click Cancel rather than Proceed once you see the intended sizes.

Thanks for the help and links . I got it figure out . My mistake was I didn't notice that it shows all the backup image . I have like 10 different backup image and when I open ATI program all I saw was 2 backup image but if I scroll down further they are all listed , I didn't realize that part until after a while . Though I'm still figuring out how to backup a brand name computer ( product recovery ) system . When ever one does this their like 3 partitions . IF one doesn't select all three when doing a backup you wouldn't be able to restore it unless all three were back up . Even the restoring part is a little tricky but once you get the hang of it , than it becomes simple . Thanks again .

All of this link may be of interest but note particularly the post #26.
Acronis does not make it easy to find all the options available for when creating a backup. There is the disk view which allows the user to choose the disk rather than individual partitions as to what is to be backed up.
