How to Restore to a different partition on same disk?
I have three partitions on my harddrive that I multiboot. Each partition is 90 gigs. The first partition has windows xp that I would like to 'copy' to the other two partitions.
The purpose of this, is to use the 2nd and 3rd partitions has pseudo virtual machines, that can be discarded and restored as needed from the first partition.
When restoring a backup of my first partition, the first partition is my only option. I can not pick either my 2nd or 3rd partition. I've tried both recoverying in windows and using the rescue media.
Is Acronis True Image capable of performing this kind of task?
Thanks, Brian

Brian,
What version and build of TI are you using?
If you try to resize (shrink) the partition during the restore, are the other partitions still unavailable?
There is a "bug" that shows up from time to time that won't let you restore a partition image back to the source. It solution is to resize the partition just slightly larger. Is this possible (on the third partition, for example)?
If you do get the restore to work, you will very likely have drive letter assignment issues if it's not done correctly.

What are the three partitions booting now? What do you use as the boot manager?

Unless you have a boot manager, restoring an XP image to a different partition will leave it unbootable. You will need to edit boot.ini to show the correct partition that this copy is installed on. A boot manager that hides partitions so that XP can't see that it is on a different partition may work without editing boot.ini.

This is odd. I've done exactly what you want to do, and TI let me select any of the partitions on the drive to restore to (as long as they were large enough.
You might try formatting one of the partitions in copy 1 of XP and see if you can then restore to that partition.
