HOW RESTORE TO LARGER DISK

Thread needs solution

I am using True Image Home 2009 and have a windows 7 232GB full backup image.  May I please ask how to restore image to a larger disk 500GB?  My first attempt created two 232 plus sized partitions.  One was unallocated.  I was after install go to disk management in windows and extend partition.  However something tells me this was not the correct way to handle this.  I thought restore would normally resize the image to the new larger disk, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

Thank you.

Benjamin, welcome to these User Forums.

If you have already restored your Windows 7 backup image to your new larger disk drive and this is working / boots into Windows successfully etc. then I would not worry about getting ATIH 2009 to restore and resize the partition(s) to the full capacity of the drive.

It is fine to expand the restored partition to use the unallocated space by using Windows Disk Management, or you can use one of the various free Partition Management tools to do the same resizing.

We did not keep the restore.  May I please ask you of the proper steps to restore to a larger disk?

Benajamin, if you do an entire disk recovery then Acronis should automatically resize the disk contents to fit on your new drive, whether that is to reduce the size for a smaller destination or increase the size for a larger drive.

Please see document: ATIH 2017 Disk Restore.PDF which demonstrates this process for an entire disk restore.

Otherwise, please see the ATIH 2017 User Guide: Recovering your system to a new disk under bootable media which will guide you on how to resize your partitions individually.

Steve,

Thank you! The automatic resizing is not working on the restore.  I also performed a clean wipe on the new disk and that didn't help.  I will read the documentation that you provided and see if I can accomplish a successful full disk partition restore.

Best regards,

Ben
