How run full image one day a week and a differential the other 6 days?

Thread needs solution

I am new to Acronis Home and am testing using the 2015 trial. I need to run a full image every Friday and a differential backup on the other six days of the week. The only way I can find to do this is to create two backup jobs, one for the weekly full image and another for the differentials.

Will this strategy cause a problem when I need to do a restore because the full image and the differential I will use to restore were created by two different backup jobs? Thanks.

Only 1 task is needed. Use example GH13 as your guide for your backup scheme except set it for your 1 full plus 6 diff.
Your chain length is 7 files. My example shows keeping 2 chains of 7 (Store no more than 2....) and automatic deletion of the oldest chain would occur after the 3rd Full Backup and after each fulll thereafter. In the "store 2 option, decrease to 1 if you only want 1 revolving chain (not recommended), or increase the
"store 2" to a higher number if you wish to keep more chains (7 files per chain)

GH13. Create Custom Differential Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup. ...Keep Full plus 2 Diff per chain. Store/Keep 2 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type. These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups. These example show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do the deletion after it reaches your set goal of how many chains to retain.

Editing an existing task is not recommended. Rarely does an edited task perform to user exectations. It is usually better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder. Old task can be stopped or deleted from the task listings.

GH11. Create Custom Full Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup....Store/Keep 4 versions (chains). Use whatever number best fits the individual needs..

GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup. ...Keep Full plus 6 Inc per chain. Store/Keep 4 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

GH13. Create Custom Differential Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup. ...Keep Full plus 2 Diff per chain. Store/Keep 2 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

Thanks very much for your help. I purchased and installed TI Home 2016 today and have a serious problem. After I create a backup if I try to exit the program or create another backup I get an error dialog that says, "If you leave this window, the current settings will be lost.". How do I save the backup I have created so I will not get this error message and will not lose my settings when I exit the program?

Regarding my original question, one of the computers is a laptop which may not always be connected to the network and the external USB drive that is the destination for the backups. Using your suggestion, if one of the daily backups is missed the full partition backup will not run on Friday because there will not be 6 differential backups since the last full backup. I want the full backup to run on Friday because on Saturday I copy the latest chain to a portable hard drive and take it to another location for off-site storage. I have two portable drives that I rotate off site. Is there any way I can force the full backup to run on Friday other than doing all of the backups manually?

The error message is indicating you have not saved the task yet. You need one more step.
In the lower right corner, click the down arrow and choose later for when to run the backup.

NO time right now to answer the other. Maybe tomorrow.

No, the full comes only after a fixed number of inc. You would need to run some extra inc to get back on schedule.Wish there were other choices.

I too wish there was a better option. The backup program I have been using allows me to specify the specific day of the week on which each type of backup must run. I am surprised that TI does not off this. That said, I like everything else about the program so I will find a way to make it work. Thanks again for your help.

Yes, it is an option that we users have asked for repeatly. Unfortunately, Aconis has plugs in their ears.:)
The extra inc can be quick if there are few changes.

After an hour tech support concluded that my most serious problem is caused by a bug in TI 2016. The following explains how you will encounter the bug.

Create a custom backup scheme and save it using any name you choose.
Create a new backup job and save it.
Go to the Backup Scheme tab and select your custom backup scheme from the drop-down list.
Exit TI.
Launch TI and go to the Backup Scheme tab.
Your custom settings will not have been saved for this backup job.

The workaround.
On the Backup Scheme tab select your custom scheme from the drop-down list.
Click the drop-down list and select Custom Scheme. Your custom settings will still be displayed.
Exit TI.
Launch TI and go to the Backup Scheme tab. Your custom settings should still be there.

In short, custom backup scheme settings will not be saved as part of the backup job unless you have selected Custom Settings from the top drop-down list.

This is a similar lnk. Also exists in beta forum.
