How to schedule for Full/Incremental backups for my drives

Thread needs solution

I'm having trouble setting up an effective schedule for backups that doesn't eventually stop because it's filling up my target drive.

I have a partition and 1TB drive (Z") set aside on my hard disk to store backups. I want to take a full backup of my other drives (~250GB) once a week and incrementals on the other days. I want to keep at least one (preferably two) previous week's full and incremental backups in addition to the current week's. I want backup sets to stay on Z: until it fills up, at which time the oldest ones can be discarded.

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to configure the backups. My attempts so far have resulted in a single full backup and multiple incrementals until the disk fills up. At that point, the whole process stops because there's no more room on the disk.

How can I set up the schedule so it creates the sets of backups (full plus incrementals per week) that I want?

Thanks for you help in advance,

BillBR

William,
Here is some reading material.

The link AGH-1 contains some general hints about backup tasks.

The link GH12 is an example of how you can set up a new backup scheme which will not fill up your disk and will provide automatic backup deletion of older chains. You do not indicate the total size of one weeks backups. Assuming that it is about 300GB, then you could set up full plus 5 incrementals (depending upon how many you want until the next full, and then set 2 as the "store no more than 2 recent version chains".
The program would make its first deletion after full #3 and then seconds later, delete the first chain. All this would consume about 850GB of storage space as the program creates its replacement first before performing the deleting causing a shortterm need for space every full backup.

All of the additional links are recent postings on the same type topic from which could be a learning experience and assist in your problem solving.
