Thread needs solution

hi,

tks for the contributors on this forum :)

Please, 'd like to build a complete backup (os + applications) in case of laptop crash.
So a backup ready to be restored on another machine. I've got TI 2015 + Universal restore
For the time being i've got a asus win 8.1 fully updated x64 bits.

Which solution to choose from ? image, clone ? Which kind of external device to use (network storage, usb drive ?) ?

Tks a lot

Do an "entire PC" image backup to a USB disk. Alternatively, you can backup to a NAS. If you use wireless to the NAS, make sure you test the wireless support in the recovery CD.
At any rate, USB or NAS, make sure you produce a recovery CD, boot your computer successfully on it and that you can restore a couple of files from your backup.

Don't use clone for backup purposes. The result of a clone is a disk. The result of an image is a file that can have multiple versions.

hi pat,

tks a lot ..so to be sure i understand :

i do a backup as a image (disk or nas) ..
If i want to use it on a new machine i use a recovery cd to boot from with a new machine ? But what about the use of universal restore then in that process ?
I confirm that i 'd like also avoiding installing all my applications on this new machine (my backup to restore will include Os (system) + Apps + Data) .

Tks a lot...again

If you are going to restore an image made from a different machine to say a new machine, then you would use the universal restore disk which would allow you to install the drivers for the new hardware during the restore process. A universal restore disk contains the True Image app just like the recovery media does.

Hi Enchantech,

Tks..
so i need : 1 image disk + 1 universal restore disk = ok .
Do i have to create 2 restore disks in fact in addition to the one for the image (acronis media disk + universal restore ?) ..

tks again...

If I understand your question correctly you would create a recovery/restore media for backup imaging, and restore purposes. You would create a universal restore media if you need to restore an image to a machine that has different hardware such as a motherboard then the machine that the image was taken from. An image disk would be that where you store your backup image files.

hi Enchantech,

Tks again for your response...

i've downloded the utility file "universal restore " but i'am a bit confused about how to manage it ...do you know any step by step tutorial available somewhere ?

Tks a lot

hi Enchantech,

Do you know somewhere any step by step tutorials for creating a universal restore backup ?Even with the wizard and the help enclosed, i've got some problems to understand precisely all the whereabouts ..

tks

Well, here is a link to a good number of how to YouTube videos on many subjects including creating bootable/recovery media and universal restore. These should help.
