How to validate .tib image files using the ISO created boot rescue disk?

Thread needs solution

It was suggested that I should create an image of my brand new computers C: drive without loading anything whatsoever onto C:.

I did this, using the boot rescue disk (made from the download .ISO file). The disk contains only 1 folder named BOOT and in the folder are 2 files: ('catalog.bin' and 'image.bin')

The computer booted from the disk and loaded what looks like a basic version of ATIH2010 into RAM. I then created, on Disk 2, a .tib image of Disk 1, i.e of C: (my computer has 2 separate internal HDD's). So, in theory, I have an original restore disk which can bring the PC back to where it was when it was delivered.

GroverH suggested that I validate this image file before doing the supreme test – restoring from it. If I restore from it and it does not work then the computer will have to go back because it was custom made and they didn’t supply me with an original restore disk.

The problem is that I can’t find anywhere on the ISO created version of ATIH2010 an option to validate the image file! Since the whole idea was not to load ATIH 2010 onto C: until after I have made the pristine original image of it, then how do I validate the image file?

Any help will be most appreciated!

In starting up the Recovery wizard (and this can be done several ways), you will have to select the TIB file to do the recovery with. When this file is selected, right click to get a shortcut menu. Validate or Validation should be one of the options (it will have a green check mark icon next to it). Select this option and this will bring up the Validation wizard. TIB file selection is the first step of the Recovery wizard as shown on p. 95 of the User Manual.

Thank you very much Gary.

I've found the validation option.

Now maybe I should make 3 images of C:, validate them all, and then try to restore from one, knowing that I have 2 more if something is wrong with the first one.
OR:
Maybe I should trust/hope that they are OK and press ahead with loading drivers and applications onto my new computer.

Hmmm.

2spring,
Don't forget, my suggestion was to create a backup which included all partitions on your system disk. "Then boot from the newly created iso cd and create a "disk" option backup which will include everything on your disk as illustrated by this attachment."

Thanks again for all your help. I will have to come on here and contribute some help myself when I get a bit more familiar with it all.

Both of the partitions which were visible in ATIH2010 (running in RAM, Linux version I assume) were ticked. These partitions were:

  • NTFS (System Reserved)(C:) Pri.,Act.
  • NTFS (Unlabeled)(D:)

No other partitions were listed.

I presume therefore that all partitions were included in the .tib image file which I put on internal HDD2.

When you say "Then boot from the newly created iso cd and create a "disk" option backup . . . . " what do you mean by a disk option backup? Should I have chosen a DVD as the source for the .tib image file?

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick :)

The "disk" option refers to selecting the checkbox next to the "Disk 1" that appears above the two listed partitions that you show above. It means effectively Select all the partitions on this disk as listed below to include in the image file. It is the same as checking each individual partition separately.

You do have the option of selecting any subset of the partitions. The "disk" option selects all the partitions on the disk for backup.
