HP ELITEDESK Windows 8.1 Pro is UNUSABLE after reboot while Cloning GPT Drive to SSD

Thread needs solution

PC: HP ELITEDESK

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bits

Acronis Software: Acronis® True Image™ HD 2014

I tried to create a Disk Clone on a HP ELITEDESK from internal 512 GB GPT formatted hard disk to brand new Kingston 512 GB SSD.

Started Acronis TI 2014 from Windows  -> Select Clone Disk -> Select Source -> Select Destination, etc  and  before starting the real clone proccess, asks me to reboot the machine.

During reboot, it shows the black screen with the words "GPT-formatted disk. Legacy boot not supported. Press any key to reboot."

From now on the PC it is completely unusable.  I will claim warranty support for data loss issue.

Hello Pablo,

In your case Acronis loader was not registered properly which blocked Windows loader, and at the same time, prevented cloning from being executed after reboot.

You can reset UEFI/BIOS settings and/or use Windows 8.1 installation or repair media to fix bootability of Windows.

Then you can either use bootable media to perform cloning (rather than initiating it from within Windows), or use latest version of the software which is 2016 currently: http://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/computer-backup/. Free trial is available, however disk cloning is restricted in trial mode. You can use backup&recovery method to save a copy of your original disk and then restore it to the new Kingston drive.
